Title 1 Reading and Math Intervention

I was born and raised in Illinois and received my B.A. in English at the University of Illinois.  I then went to graduate school at the University of Oregon and earned two master’s degrees:  in English and Library Science.  After 20 years as a reference librarian I decided on a career change and earned a teaching credential at California Lutheran University.  I have been in education for 26 years, first as a classroom teacher, and for the past 13 years as Literacy Coach at Santa Susana, where I coordinate the Title I program and assist teachers in planning instruction.

For the past seven years I have volunteered my time to run an after school chorus and drama program, which currently has 42 students in grades 3-6 participating.

I have one son who, along with his lovely wife, made me a grandma a little over a year ago when Cormac was born.

My favorite activities include reading, singing, playing the piano, traveling and cooking.

I believe that all students can learn and want to be successful in school.  I also believe that all children deserve to have a rich school experience that includes the arts.

I am the Title 1 Clerk here at Santa Susana Elementary.  I've worked for the Simi Valley Unified School District since 2008.  There's no place I'd rather work than in a school environment.  I'm married and have a son and a daughter who currently are attending college.  In my spare time I enjoy camping, hiking, exercising and spending time with my family.

This is my 3rd year teaching Reading Intervention. I currently work for two schools in Simi Valley Unified and love working for such a wonderful district. I was born and raised in Simi Valley and went to 4 schools in our district, so working here is very special to me. I began my teaching career in 2008 as a preschool teacher and have worked with children preschool age through 6th grade. I am married and have one son who already has a love for books, just like his mom.

I graduated from the University of Arizona in 1972 and obtained a lifetime teaching credential in 1979. I have taught for 35 years, 29 of them as a Title 1 teacher here at Santa Susana Elementary. Santa Susana is definitely my second home and family. I am lucky to work with teachers who love what they are doing, and children that are excited about learning. I work every day with all of the TK and Kindergarten students.

I am married and have one daughter, who has 2 beautiful sons. In my free time I love reading, crocheting, and spending time with my grandsons.

I began my teaching career as a pre-school teacher and music and movement teacher.  After moving to Simi Valley, I began teaching kindergarten and continued in this position for four years. Then, I began working as a Title 1 Reading Intervention teacher at Santa Susana Elementary School. I now specialize in small group instruction using many different reading programs such as SIPPS, SOAR, and READ 180.  I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from University of California Los Angeles and my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from California State University Northridge. I am married and have one son. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time in the garden.

This is my ninth year teaching Title at Santa Su. I graduated from UCLA in 2006 and earned my credential from CSUN in 2007. In addition to teaching, I enjoy camping, boating and wakeboarding, and cooking. I am married and have 1 daughter, who started Kindergarten this year.

I am one of the  Title 1 teachers at Santa Susana and have taught the SIPPS,  SOAR, and Read 180 programs at our school.  I began my teaching career as a sixth grade teacher in Santa Clarita and then taught first, second, and third grades for LAUSD.  I live in Simi Valley with my husband and two college age children.  I like to read, walk, and go camping in the mountains.

2017-18 marks my fourth year as a Title 1 teacher at Santa Susana Elementary.  Before working at this school I worked at Lincoln Elementary, Berylwood Elementary, Crestview Elementary, and Madera Elementary as a Title teacher or Reading Intervention teacher, and at Wood Ranch as a long term sub in a first grade classroom.  I have been teaching for 9 years now.  I am married and have three beautiful daughters who have all attended Simi Valley schools.  I love teaching and seeing kids learn!
